Yaremi's start facing problem and her enemies increase because of her refusal to select one of the three suitors at the cap-picking ceremony as her husband. She loses favour with most people who consider her as a rigid woman. Yaremi is reduced to tears and anxiety as she faces a period of tension and uncertainty Villagers are reluctant to exchange pleasantries with Yaremi; the men whisper words of displeasure to depress her. The villagers regard her as an unusual woman. Yaremi considers relocating from Kufi to Lamuyan village. She also contemplates going to live with her three Yaremi never lost her faith that she will triumph over all her enemies. She offers prayers, a mixture of incantations and recitations. She prays like she had never prayed before for protection against the evil machinations of adversaries". She also prays against the Segi arrives Kufi a week after the cap-picking ceremony, ready to pounce on anyone who would force her mother to have a second marriage. She pledges her support to Yaremi. AS Yaremi's first born, Segi is very close to her mother. They usually share secrets and unburder children in turns. intrigues of aye, that is the wicked people of the world. She often tends her husband's grave, out of habit; she now tends it at least two times a day. She usually sits alone at the grave very early in the morning and late at night. She communes with Ajumobi about her earthly problems and challenges. She remembers how Ajumobi had skillfully handled problems when he was alive. Yaremi attests that while other men in the village imposed themselves on their wives, Ajumobi was all loving and affectionate. When Ajumobi was alive, he used to bring all types of bush meat home to whet Yaremi's appetite. He took his time to play with her and puzzle her with different hunters' incantations and poetic renditions. Yaremi swears never to stop loving Ajumobi, even now that he is dead. During Ajumobi's courtship with Yaremi, the people of both Kufi and Adeyipo villages had concluded that their marriage would not stand the test of time, because the people believed that hunters lived most part of their lives with animals in the forest. They also opined that hunters' children would be 'animal' babies but the villagers were proven wrong; instead Ajumobi was a dedicated husband and Yaremi gave birth to three healthy children. In other words yaremi popularity decreases because of her defiance and what most consider to be an insult on the traditions of the land. She is regarded by many as an unusual woman, who is not to be emulated. Yaremi also solve her problems by taking refuge in prayers. She believes that if she remains prayerful, she would triumph over all her enemies in the end.

Character;
She is a princess and the daughter of Frederic, the Marquis of Vincenza, at the beginning of the novel Isabella is Conrad’s fiancé and the ward and de facto daughter of Hippolita and Manfred. Like Matilda, Isabella is beautiful, pious, and a model of filial devotion. Despite her personal reluctance, she agrees to marriage with Conrad because she believes it to be arranged by her long-lost father (later the narrator reveals that Manfred actually bribed her guardians). When Manfred attempts to rape her, Isabella protects her virtue by fleeing the castle with the help of Theodore and escapes to a cave where she meets Frederic, her long-lost father. After Manfred’s failed attempt to kill her, Isabella mourns the loss of Matilda with Theodore and eventually marries him.
Significance;
(a) She is a foil to Matilda. While Matilda is symbolic of the typical eighteenth century woman oppressed by the patriarchal order, Isabella comes across as a rebel to male dominance and oppression in the society.
(b) She is used by the novelist as a symbol of resistance. After being assisted by providence to escape a loveless marriage imposed by parental authorities, she resolves not to allow
herself to be placed under any kind of male oppression and she lives this principle.
