The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reported that 90% of the available slots for the optional mock examination have been filled. This development underscores the importance of early registration and informed decision-making when selecting examination towns.
Candidate Advisory on Examination Town Selection
JAMB emphasizes that it does not assign examination towns to candidates for either the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or the mock exams. Candidates are urged to make informed choices regarding their preferred locations during registration. The Board has observed a trend where some candidates intentionally select certain towns to secure mock examination slots, only to later claim they were assigned to distant locations.
“The Board does not select examination towns for candidates. Once a town’s capacity is reached, it will no longer be available for selection,” stated Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor.
Limited Slots Available in Select States
As of now, mock examination slots have been exhausted in most parts of the country. The only states with remaining slots are Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe. Candidates interested in taking the mock examination in these states are encouraged to select their examination towns accordingly.
Purpose of the Mock Examination
The optional mock examination is designed to familiarize candidates with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment and to help the Board assess its facilities ahead of the main UTME. JAMB reiterates that examination slots are allocated based on the capacity of available centers.
“The Board allocates mock examination spaces for candidates to select based on the availability of centers, and once a town’s capacity is reached, it will no longer be available for selection,” Dr. Benjamin added.
Guidance for Candidates
Candidates are advised to:
• Review Your Choices: Ensure that the selected examination town is convenient and accessible.
• Consider Travel Logistics: Factor in travel time and expenses when choosing an examination center.
• Register Early: Early registration increases the likelihood of securing a preferred examination town.
“While candidates have the right to choose their preferred examination town, JAMB urges them to consider the implications of their choices. Some candidates may select towns that are quite distant, potentially outside their home state. The Board should not be held responsible for such decisions,” Dr. Benjamin emphasized.
